The Additional Directorate General of Army Education is functioning as part of Military Training Directorate under Directorate General of Military Training and is called as ADG AE Sub Group.
At the Army Headquarters the Army Education Corps is headed by the Additional Director General Army Education in the rank of Major General as part of the Directorate General Military Training, assisted by a Deputy Director General Army Education (Brig).

Colonel Commandants
All regiments and Corps of the Indian army are authorized Colonel Commandants to maintain and perpetuate the Corps traditions, advise on Corps matters relating to Corps charities, memorials, customs, dresses, etc; to arrange Corps reunions at periodical intervals; and to watch over the progress of the Corps over the years.
The Army Educational Corps chose Maj Gen Thakur Mahadeo Singh, DSO, an infantry officer as its first Colonel Commandant in 1950, as it had no senior officer for this covetous appointment. In due course of time, the Corps was able to elect Colonel Commandants from amongst its own officers.The Colonel Commandants of the Corps :
