In 1947, POK and Northern Area had 25% of the entire population of Jammu and Kashmir .  Today it has increased to 33%, but most of them are Punjabi Muslims.  Consequently, for every FIVE Punjabi Muslims there is only ONE Kashmiri in POK 
 
On 29 July 2001 , Major General Mohhamed Anwar of the Pakistan Army was granted premature retirement, but within 24 hours he was elected as President of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on the ticket of the Muslim Conference.  

FACTS OF NORTHERN AREAS

Every resident of the Northern Areas has to report to the police station once a month.

  • Literacy rate : 14% for males  and 3.5% for females, against 64.4% for Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Only 12 High Schools and two Regional Colleges .
  • Locals who join the Govt services are paid 25 percent less than the normal wages.
  • One doctor for 6000 people.
  • Piped water supply is virtually non existent.
  • Two thirds of the population is without electricity.
