MODERNISATION OF ORDNANCE DEPOTS
Warehouse modernization of COD Kanpur was taken up as a Pilot Project and was sanctioned on 30 Jan 2001 at a total cost of Rs 187 Crs. The project was completed by Mar 2009 at a revised cost of Rs 237.91 Crs. On modernization, the depot has been provided with modern warehouses, security, fire fighting infrastructure and Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS).
The project for modernisation of COD Agra and COD Jabalpur has also been sanctioned by GoI. Modernisation work has commenced at these depots.
Proposal for System Study and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Modernisation of 13 Regional Ordnance Depots (RODs) in a phased manner has been projected. In 1st Ph 5 RODs are planned for modernization. Preperation of DPR for modernisation of 5 RODs has been approved by DAC.
Modernisation has not only been confined to depots, College of Materials Management, the Alma Mater of the Corps also has witnessed foremost transformation in the field of modernization to include Hi-tech Classrooms. Upgradation of the existing class rooms has been done using modern audio visual equipment such as computers and Video Projection Systems which are an inescapable requirement in the future for multi-sensory instructions.
Modernisation of Security and Fire Fighting Infrastructure in Amn Depots
The project for modernisation of security, fire fighting infrastructure for three amn depots has been contracted. The execution of the project is under progress. The project envisages a three tier security and fire fighting sys. First Tier. This Tier security will be based on outer perimeter wire fence supplemented with powerful security lights, electric security fence, and PNVD. Second Tier. This tier consists of an inner wall mounted with two feet high Electric Security Fence supported by a network of cameras, electrified gates and a near fool proof entry access systems. Third Tier. This consists of additional electrified fence for special security areas (Missiles, Small Arms, etc), smoke and fire detection alarm systems, QRTs, PNVDs etc.
