39 Mtn Div Conducts Dah Gladiator Competition
 

The Dah Division has conducted the Dah Gladiator contest through holistic training of its junior leaders to test their physical, cognitive & personality development attributes. 74 officers including five lady officers participated in the competition. The prize winners were felicitated by Maj Gen Sukesh Rakshit GOC Dah Div during the camp fire.
 

 
Army Air Defence College Conducts Fire Power Demonstration
 

AAD College conducted Fire Power Demonstration for visiting students and dignitaries of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Military Institute of Technology, Pune. The demonstration was kicked off with the SAM systems. The guns included the entire spectrum of fair weather and all weather towed as well as the self-propelled guns, while the SAM fire included the VSHORAD systems and SRSAMS. This was followed by live firing of guns and the majestic launch of the Inter Services Pilotless Target Aircraft (ISPTA) Lakshya which was engaged successfully in a deadly salvo of SAMs killing the target tow body beyond visual range.

 
Operations in Kumbh Mela
 

Due to heavy rains the Kumbh Mela site was threatened by floods on night of 18 Feb when a water stream from river Ganga broke the embankment near Railway Bridge and flooded the area. Breach would have inundated mela area resulting in a need to evacuate thousands of people. Commissioner Allahabad requested the Army to provide assistance to bring the situation under control. The Red Eagle Division brought the situation under control by tireless efforts and dedicated action during the night. Red Eagle Division was also instrumental in the rescue of 200 pilgrims comprising mainly of ladies and old people to safety.

 
Camel Safari Expedition – 2013
 

A Camel Safari Expedition was organised by HQ Southern Command on the occasion of 64th Republic Day. The expedition was flagged off by Lt Gen MMS Rai, GOC 12 Corps in the presence of Maj Gen Amrik Singh, GOC 12 RAPID .The expedition team comprising of one officer, one JCO and 10 OR of 8 JAT with 10 camels started from Jaisalmer and travelled through Amar Sagar Lake, Kuldhara, Sam, Bandha, Asutar and Ghotaru covering a distance of approximately 135 Kms over three days. The aim of this adventurous event was to spread awareness amongst the youth of border areas, as also creating goodwill and motivate them to join the Indian Army by showcasing the true spirit of the Indian Army.

 
Inauguration of Martyr’s Gallery and Felicitation of World War Veteran
 

A martyrs’ Gallery was inaugurated at Swaran Jyanti Chowk. On this occasion Army felicitated Ex Capt (Dr) HR Khera on his 95th birthday. Dr. HR Khera participated in famous battle of Al-Alamin between Allied forces and Germans in 1942. Even at this age, he is going strong and spearheading various welfare and philanthropy activities in Pathankot. The felicitation ceremony at Pathankot included presentation of Mementoes by Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, AVSM, VSM, GOC-in-C Western Command. Memento was also presented on behalf of Chief of the Army Staff. The Commemoration Ceremony has added yet another golden leaf to Indian Army’s rich tradition of honouring its veterans.

 
Environmental Awareness Rally
 

OTA Chennai organized an environmental awareness rally to Marina Beach, followed by a sailing Regatta race in the Bay of Bengal on 20 Jan 2013. The event was in commemoration of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of OTA Chennai. 300 Cadets participated, covering a distance of approx 18 km to propagate the message of preserving planet’s rich natural resources and promoting a healthy environment. The Cycle Rally was flagged by Lt Gen SS Jog, Commandant, OTA Chennai. The event was followed by ‘life saving drills’ displayed by the Indian Coast Guard and Naval maneuvers shown by Indian Navy.

 
Ex-Servicemen Rally at Meerut
 

An Ex-Servicemen (ESM) rally was organised by 20 RAJ RIF at Meerut Cantt for the valiant ESM of RAJ RIF fraternity under the aegis of RAM Division. ESM and Veer Naris from districts of Eastern UP attended the rally. Commandant RAJ RIF Regt Centre and Officers from the Record Office, RAJ RIF made the ESM aware of the latest orders, instructions, and various welfare schemes. “On the spot” redressal and grievances cell was established for the Veterans. A recruitment rally for outstanding sportsman was also conducted for the wards of ESM. The event managed to win over the hearts of the Veterans thus earning their admiration and blessings.

 
Inauguration of Computer Training Centre
 

HQ 69 Mountain Brigade has set up Garud Computer Training Centre at Pithoragarh to educate wards of Ex-servicemen and Veer Naris. A three months certification course in collaboration with Digitech Computer, Pithoragarh is being run free of cost for the wards of ESM and Veer Naris, which will help them to pursue self employment. As a goodwill gesture GENPACT INDIA Ltd has donated 10 branded computers for running the centre.

 
Horse Show & Equine Therapy for Differently Abled Children
 

877 AT Bn ASC org a horse show & equine therapy session for the special children of Asha School, Bengdubi on 04 Feb 13. The programme was inaugurated by GOC 111 Sub Area. A thrilling horse show was put up by the talented riders, which was a treat to watch. Pony rides for differently abled children were conducted by riders. Each rider overcame their fear and shortcomings, to experience the joy and thrill of riding.

 
Expedition to Kilimanjaro in Africa
 

Lt Gen Anil Chait, GOC-in-C Central Command handed over the National, Indian Army and Surya Command Flags including Ice Axe to Brigadier Ashok Abbey to unfurl atop Mount Kilimanjaro at an altitude of 5895 meters in East Africa to commemorate its Golden Jubilee this year. The mountain was first climbed in 1889, by Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller and is known for its multifarious challenges.

 
Army Mela in Dhemaji
 

The Indian Army organized a two day ‘Army Mela’ at Dhemaji Stadium, Dhemaji (Assam). The mela was inaugurated by Gen (Retd) JJ Singh, Governor, Arunachal Pradesh and attended by Lt Gen Arun Kumar Sahni, SM, VSM, GOC Spear Corps. Spectators enjoyed the daredevil acts of Army Paratroopers followed by Para Motor display and was mesmerized into the patriotic fervor by the music of the Military band. As a mark of respect and recognition for their sacrifices, specially made modified scooters were presented to the disabled soldiers and monetary assistance was extended to the ‘Veer Naris’. A free medical camp was organized for the benefit of the retired soldiers and the general public. The major highlights of this mela were the awareness stalls set up by various agencies of the army, providing information on the recruitment procedure, various education and welfare schemes, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme and Army Welfare Housing Organization schemes.

 
Anti Polythene Campaign
 

The tiny tots of Ordnance Army Pre Primary School with the help of 223 ABOD organized a campaign to clean up the surrounding areas of Suranussi on 19 Feb 2013. The drive started with the children, holding banners and narrating about ill effects of plastics. Principal of Ordnance Army Pre-Primary School, Suranussi, said that the aim of the effort is to inculcate the habit of cleanliness in the tiny tots and also make an appeal to the residents to keep the area clean.

Tour from Manipur Interact with Eastern Army Commander at Kolkata
 

 The National Integration tour, comprising of 23 students, three teachers and Meira Paibies from remote areas of Imphal West district along with representatives from Assam Rifles of Sector under HQ IGAR(S) interacted with Lt Gen Dalbir Singh, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command at Fort William, Kolkata. He encouraged them to utilize the opportunity to discover the prospects that are available outside the State and  also to imbibe the positive values of people from different States of India. Such exposure of socio economic and cultural synergy has promoted peace and prosperity in the region.

 

 

Medical Cum Career Counseling Camp

 

Assam Rifles of 28 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) under AR MCA organised multi-specialty Medical, Dental cum Career Counseling Camp at Kakching Khunao in Thoubal District on 20 Jan 2012. The Medical Camp had the facility of various specialists including Eye, ENT, Skin, Gynecology, Surgery, Dental and Pediatrician etc. A fully equipped state of the art Mobile Dental Clinic was also established to provide much needed dental care to the local populace. The camp was conducted at the behest of IGAR (S) with a commitment to provide all possible help to the local populace to ameliorate the problems being faced by the population in terms of quality medical facilities.

 

Trekking Cum Awareness Drive

 

Black Cat Gunners initiated the drive of carrying out trekking expedition cum awareness campaign in West and South Sikkim with the aim of generating spirit of adventurism, team buildup and physical endurance. Team of two Officers, two Junior Commissioned Officer and fifteen Other Ranks was flagged off by GOC 17 Mountain Division on 30 January 2013. During the course of trekking, the team interacted with number of Ex-servicemen of the region, conducted lectures, provisioning of first aid to the needy people in remote villages and promotion of recruitment drive.

 
Medical Camp by 9 Madras (Travancore)
 

MADRAS (TRAVANCORE) organised a three day medical camp in the remote villages of Assam & Nagaland from 28 to 30 Jan 2013. During the camp, large number of patients including women and children were treated by the Regimental Medical Officer and medicines were distributed. The local population, mainly comprising of Dimasa and Kuki tribes, expressed their gratitude to the Army. These initiatives under ‘OPERATION SAMARITAN’ strengthened the commitment of Army towards development in the area and established a close understanding with the tribal population.

 Chillai-Kalaan Mela : A Warm Speck In The Chill
 

Maj Gen RR Nimbhorkar, GOC CIF (V) alongwith a local couple hailing from Seer inaugurated the mela on 27 Jan 2013, which was attended by approx 2500 locals. The theme for this year was ‘Protect and Respect Women’. Wide array of events were planned to ensure participation of all age groups. The Chillai-Kalaan Mela generated tremendous response from local populace including media.

 
Skill Development Programme by 27 RR (Maratha LI)
 

To project the image of a ‘Humane Army’, a workshop on mobile repair and food processing for youths hailing from the terrorism affected area of Bandipore and Sopore District was organised by RR (Maratha Li) at Bandipore, from 21 to 27 Jan 2013. A mobile repairing kit worth Rs 3,000 was put on sale on concessional rates for the youth to start their personal mobile repairing shop.

 
Assistance to Middle School Nawbati (J&K)
 

Nawabati, a small remote village located near Manasbal, approached Rashtriya Rifles (KUMAON) to provide Computer hardware to the School. Within a few weeks, computers, UPS for backup during electricity failure and Computer training charts were handed over to the school authorities. In addition, impoverished students were handed solar lanterns to facilitate in their studies during power failures.

 
Student Exchange Programme
 

Army Goodwill Schools are undertaking numerous projects for academic upgradation as well as bringing in new teaching techniques. Teacher and Student Exchange Programme launched by Chinar Corps is one such step in this direction. Under Teacher and Student Exchange Programme, three such programmes were organised at Noida, Handwara Raigarh and Chattisgarh. The aim of the exchange programme was to remove the sense of alienation and to generate a sense of belongingness to the Nation, amongst Kashmiri students, by forging long lasting relationship with their brethrens in rest of India. The tour got an opportunity to meet the Hon’ble President Shri Pranab Mukharjee and visited various historical places in Delhi & Agra.

National Equestrian Competition
 

Harmandeep Singh Khara, a 14 years boy, class XI student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William, Kolkata won two Gold and two Silver medals in National Equestrian Competition as part of HQ Eastern Command Equestrian Team. He also won two Gold medals, one in “West Bengal State Olympic Equestrian Competition”.

 
National Canoe Sprint Championships
 

23rd National Canoe Sprint Championships 2012-13 was conducted at Komlakhong Water Sports Complex, Mayang West Imphal, Manipur from 30 Jan to 04 Feb 2013. Pers of Corps of EME represented the Services Team in Kayaking & Canoeing. Nb Sub Sanjit Singh and Nb Sub Sawlabow won gold medal in 200 meter Canoeing Sprint, while Hav Yendhpa won gold medal in 1000 meter and silver medal in 200 meter Kayaking Sprint.

 
Army Dare Devils Break 3 World Records
 

The Corps of Signals Motor Cycles Rider Display Team, popularly known as the “DARE DEVILS” continuing with their traditions, under the leadership of Capt Abhayjit Mehlawat established three more world records on 29 Jan 2013 at Jabalpur Cantt. Two High Court Judges certified the records to be included in LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS and GUINNESS BOOK of WORLD RECORDS.

 
Central Army Commander Felicitates Special Olympic Medalists
 

Lt Gen Anil Chait, GOC-in-C, Central Command felicitated three ‘Golden Girls’ of Central Command Asha School at the lawns of ARUNODAYA. Three girls, viz Anishka, Priyanka and Kulpreet won 04 Gold and 01 Bronze medal at the recently concluded Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Pyeongchang, South Korea from 29 Jan to 05 Feb 2013. A total of 2,200 athletes from 120 countries participated in 55 events in eight sports. 58 special athletes represented India at the games. Three children of Central Command ASHA School, Lucknow, the only children from UP, were part of the Indian team.

PENSION RELATED ISSUES

Enhanced pension for old age pensioners/family pensioners who are 80 yrs & above (80 to 84 – 20%, 85 to 89 – 30%, 90 to 94 – 40%, 95 to 99 – 50% and 100 yrs & above – 100%).

Commutation of Pension: Commuted part of pension is restored automatically after 15 years from date of retirement.

Retirement Gratuity: Computed at ¼ of Basic Pay plus Grade Pay Plus MSP DA for six monthly period of qualifying service.

Changes brought about wef 01 Jan 06
• Ex-gratia Lumpsum Compensation of Rs. 9 Lakhs for 100% disability made admissible on invalidment wef 01 Apr 11.
• Unmarried/Widow/Divorcee dependent daughters of Armed Forces personnel shall be entitled to Liberalised and Special Family Pension as well in addition to Ordinary Family Pension wef 06 Sep 2007.
• Full pension delinked with 33 years of qualifying service.
• Commutation increased to 50%.
• Minimum pension raised to Rs 3500 + Dearness Relief.
• Max limit of retirement gratuity/death gratuity – Rs 10 lakhs.
• Pre 2006 retired JCO/OR granted enhancement in revised pension wef 01 Jul 2009 on the basis of recommendations of Cabinet Secretary's Committee.
• Liberalised and Special Family Pension continue on re-marriage.
• Ordinary Family Pension continue on remarriage of childless widow. In case of children, it gets transferred to the child.
• Majors who retired on or after 01 Jan 96 and had rendered 21 years of substantive service granted parity in pension including disability/ invalid pension and family pension in PB-4 at par with Lt Col (TS) Govt letter issued on 24 Sep 12.
• Cap on war injury pension has been removed wef 01 Jul 2009.
• Change in computation of Disability and War injury Element from slab rates to percentage system. Benefit extended to pre 2006 retirees as well.

• As part of bridging the disparity in pension in r/o other ranks additional weightage of 2yrs granted while calculating pension.

UNIT RUN CANTEENS

ESM Smart Cards Policy (Retiring JCOs/ORs)
• New Policy of ESM Smart Card for retiring JCOs/OR issued.
• Provide timely replacement of Smart Card to serving PBOR due to retire, can apply for ESM card at their parent unit 90 days before their retirement to maintain continuity of canteen facilities.
• Individual on being discharged/pension will visit his dependent URC and get his new Smart Card activated.

Control Over AFD Items
• Four Wheelers (Car) Based on purchasing power will be entitled to purchase another car only after years and up to power as mentioned below:-
• Officers (including retired): Four years & upto 2500cc capacity.
• Hony Commissioned, JCOs/Eqv (Incl retd): Seven years & upto 1500cc capacity.
• JCOs/OR & Equivalent (Including retired): Once while in service and once after retirement up to 1400 cc capacity.
• Two Wheelers: All categories (including retired); Every three years.
• AFD Items (Refrigerator, TV, Washing Machine etc): These will be limited to after every three years for all categories.
• AFD Limit: Present upper limit of AFD items on Grocery Smart Card of Rs 500/- will be increased to Rs 750/-.

ARMY GROUP INSURANCE FUND (AGIF)

Extended Insurance (EI) Scheme .
• AGIF members who have joined EI Scheme wef 31 Jul 2010 will be refunded their one time subscription without interested on completion of 26 years after retirement or 75 yrs of age whichever is earlier. Members who joined the Scheme prior to 31 Jul 2010 will continue to be covered as per their Extended Insurance Certificates.
AGIF Scholarship Scheme
• For wards of Serving members & ESM at 9 Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) Institutes.
• 24% vacancies reserved for Officers and JCOs/ OR at the rate of Rs 40,000/- per selected student per annum.

• AGIF MBS members being refunded one time premium charged from them for MBS along with 70% ex gratia.

Annual Day Celebrations of Sanskriti Cultural Centre, Pune
 

Sanskriti Cultural Centre is a non profit AWWA, Southern Command endeavour, which imparts training to wards of all ranks and civilians in Pune, in ethnic art forms like Bharatnatyam, Folk Dances, Classical Vocals, Tabla, Harmonium and also shapes the skills of young aspirants in Drawing & Painting. The institution functions under the aegis of HQ 41 Arty Div. The talent groomed by Sanskriti Cultural Centre was on demonstration during the ‘Annual Day Celebrations’ held on 09 Feb 13.

 
Aao Bune Ek Behtar Kal Knitting Contest
 

A knitting contest for ladies of Janglot & Basoli station was organised by 111 Rkt Regt under the agies of 401(I) Arty Bde. An over whelming strength of 240 ladies took part in the knitting contest showing craftsmanship and imagination. Vardhman mills provided their support in organising this event. Senior Director Family Welfare Organisation of Arty Bde presided over the event and appreciated the ladies for their keen participation.
