Military Cross“MILITARY CROSS” was instituted on 31 Dec 1914 during World War-I. Commissioned Officers of the Army upto the rank of Major and Warrant Officers were eligible for the award, which may be awarded posthumously. A bar is also awarded for any subsequent acts. Design. The award consists of a silver cross medal, with an impression of Imperial Crown on each arm and Royal and Imperial Cypher GRI at the centre.

“PARAM VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL” is awarded for distinguished service of the most exceptional order. Instituted as "VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL Class I" on 26 January 1960 and later redisignated as “PARAM VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL” on 27 January 1967. May be awarded posthumously. Design. The medal, circular in shape, is made of gold gilt. On its obverse is embossed a five pointed star and on its reverse is embossed the state Emblem with the inscription PARAM VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL (in Hindi) along the upper rim. The ribbon is of golden colour divided into two equal parts by one dark blue stripe.
“KIRTI CHAKRA” is awarded for conspicuous gallantry otherwise than in face of the enemy. Instituted as "ASHOK CHAKRA Class Two" on 04 January 1952 and was later redisignated as "KIRTI CHAKRA" on 27 January 1967. The medal may be awarded posthumously. Design. The medal, made of silver, has on its obverse embossed replica of Ashok's Chakra in the centre surrounded by a lotus wreath and a pattern of lotus leaves, flowers and bud along the rim. On its reverse is embossed the inscription KIRTI CHAKRA, both in Hindi and English, with two lotus flowers between the both version. The ribbon is of green colour silk divided into three equal parts by two orange vertical lines. The green colour denotes Auspiciousness and the orange colour denotes Renunciation and Sacrifice.
Ati Vishist Seva Medal“ATI VISHIST SEVA MEDAL” is awarded for distinguished service of an exceptional order. Instituted on 26 January 1960 as "VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL Class II" and later redesignated as "ATI VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL" on 27 January 1967. May be awarded posthumously. Design. The medal, made of standard silver, has on its obverse embossed five pointed star. On its reverse is embossed the replica of State Emblem with inscription ATI VISHIST SEVA MEDAL (in Hindi) embossed along the upper rim. The ribbon is golden colour divided into three equal parts by two dark blue vertical stripes.
“VIR CHAKRA”, India’s 3rd highest gallantry award, is awarded for acts of gallantry in the presence of the enemy, whether on land, at sea or in the air. May be awarded posthumously. Instituted by the President on 26 January 1950. Design. The medal, round in shape, is made of standard silver. On its obverse is embossed five-pointed star with the points of star just touching the rim. The star has a chakra in the center and within the Chakra is a domed centerpiece bearing the State Emblem (including motto). On the reverse is embossed the inscription ‘VIR CHAKRA”, both in Hindi and English, with two lotus flowers between both version of inscriptions.
Shaurya Chakra
“SHAURYA CHAKRA” is the awarded for gallantry, otherwise in the face of the enemy. Sena Medal
“SENA MEDAL” is the awarded for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the Army. Instituted on 17 June 1960. May be awarded posthumously. Design. The medal, round in shape, is made of silver. On its obverse is embossed a unseathed sword. On the reverse is embossed an armed soldier with the inscription SHAURYA CHAKRA (in Hindi) embossed along the upper rim.
