As a special initiative of Col Comdt,
The Bengal Sappers, spl meets are being org by Bengal Sapper Units
at various locations to interact with veteran JCOs and OR of Bengal
Sappers. This will enable us to be aware of problems being faced by
them post retirement. In addition, this is a platform to make the
veterans aware regarding change in various policies with regards to
ECHS, placements, pension etc.
The Meet was org by Begnal Sappers Regiment, “Saath Ek - Lakshya
Bhed” at Meerut in which veterans settled in and around Meerut were
invited. The initiative was taken extremely positively by the
veterans who travelled from their villages/ towns to Meerut. Besides
making them aware of various policies, the veterans got a chance to
meet their old brothers in arms and was an emotional re-union.
The Meet was presided over by Brig SK Kataria, Commandant, Bengal
Engineer Group & Centre, Roorkee. Huge turnout was observed in which
04 retired Offrs, 24 veteran JCOs and 154 retired OR attended the
Meet. Besides veterans, 11 widows of brave Bengal Sapper also graced
The Meet commenced with paying homage to Martyrs/ departed Bengal
Sappers by observing two mins silence. Thereafter, Commandant Bengal
Engineer Group & Centre addressed the Veteran Offrs, JCOs, OR,
Widows and Veer Naris. He apprised the gathering regarding the
latest activities and achievement of the group and covered the
latest policy matters relating to veterans, Veer Naris & Widows.
They were also made aware regarding the pension process and any
grievances pertaining to these were noted. In addition, they were
educated about the procedure of ECHS and associated hospitals.
The meet culminated by everyone meeting each other and exchanging
pleasantries. This was followed by lunch for all veterans. The
veterans were appreciative of the initiative which promoted
association and bonding between veteran JCOs & OR of The Bengal
