Laying of Foundation Stone Army College of Nursing, Jalandhar Cantt
The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) was raised in April 1983 with the aim to impart quality education at an affordable cost to the wards of serving and retired army personnel. Today, the AWES has the proud privilege of running 127 Schools and 13 professional colleges for imparting basic and higher vocational education. The Army College of Nursing, Jalandhar Cantonment is one such venture of AWES towards providing quality nursing education. The College is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot and presently is being run from the premises of Military Hospital, Jalandhar Cantonment since 01 Aug 2005. At present the college has a strength of 200 students undergoing the Bsc nursing course.
The foundation stone for the new College complex at Jalandhar Cantonment was laid by General VK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC, Chief of The Army Staff at ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ ceremony held on 15 April. The ceremony was graced by Lieutenant General SR Ghosh, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Command, Lieutenant General Ramesh Halgali, SM, General Officer Commanding 11 Corps and other army officers, Junior Commissioned officers, Non Commissioned officers, ladies, faculty members and students of the Army College of Nursing and Military Hospital.
The state of the art project is likely to be completed by 2012 at a cost of approximately 28 crores. The project consists of an Administration Block, a Multipurpose Hall, Modern Library, Teaching Block, Staff Residence, Sports Complex and a Hostel Complex. The project construction is being undertaken by Army Welfare Housing Organization.
The Army Chief in his address expressed his happiness on the achievement of the students and exhorted them to willingly devote themselves in providing succor to the poor and downtrodden during Community Health Programmes and bring up the health care awareness in rural areas.
