1.    The Make in India initiative is spearheaded by Army Design Bureau whose role is to be the facilitator for Research & Development efforts and initiation of Procurements of Weapons and Equipment required by the Indian Army.

2.    In furtherance of Army Design Bureau goal to empower the force modernisation process as also identify and guide DRDO, PSUs, Academia and private industry on the ‘Right Research thrust areas’ for the Indian Army’s requirements, the Army Design Bureau under a Major General has been organised under two major verticals namely ‘Simulator Innovation & Design (SID)’  and ‘Technology Resources Centre’, each headed by a Brigadier The outline organisation of ADB is as appended below:-

3.    Simulator , Innovation & Design (SID).        SID based at Secunderabad aims to provide the technological expertise and advise in the related fields. SID has been established by re-designation and enhancing the charter of Simulator Development Division to work in the thrust areas of Simulators, Innovations and Design for the Indian Army.It is envisaged to be the Centre of Excellence for  in-house design and development of simulators.The Charter of Duties of SID will be as follows:-

(a)    Centre of Excellence for in–house design and development of simulators.

(b)    Provide technical advice on formulation of QRs for simulators, innovations and design of future weapon systems and equipment.

(c)    Carry out feasibility study and undertake/sponsor projects/proof of concepts/technology demonstrators using available R&D fundson development of proposed simulators, innovations and design.
(d)    Evaluate emerging military technology and trends, provide technological inputs for standardization and formulation of road map in the field of simulators, innovation and design.

(e)    Assist in conduct of trials and evaluation.
(f)    Update and upgrades to sustain existing projects/systems.

(g)    Organize and participate in related seminars, studies, papers, training, courses, hiring/consultancy, etc.

(h)    Maintain repository of related information on simulators, innovations and design aspects. 

(j)    Interact with all stake holder and agencies involved in similar activities, and suggest way forwardto users, R&D/production agencies, academia & industry.

5.    Technology Resource Centre.          The Technology Resource Centre will be based in Delhi in the IHQ of MoD (Army) complex. The centre will be headed by a Brigadier and will be the point contact for the Industry and DRDO. The role of Technology Resource Centre will be to facilitate interaction between the Industry, Academia and DRDO and the Army for identifying equipment for use in the Army, initiating their procurement for capability enhancement and developing future technologies towards capability development of the Army.The Charter of duties for Technology Resource Centre will be as     following:-

(a)    Be a single point contact for the Army with DRDO and assist in identifying various projects for the DRDO.

(b)    Carryout interactions with the industry and academia and map the Indigenous capb in Academic and Industrial community.

(c)    Synergise Research and Devp activities in the Army, Industry and Academia.

(d)    Conduct outreach programs and field visits for academia and industry to acquaint them with the equipment, components and sub components being used in the Army to facilitate their comprehension and further development of the same.

(e)    To collate operational requirements from the field formations and bring it forward for deliberations with DRDO, OFB, DPSUs, Defence Industry and Academia.

(f)    To assist in formulation of GSQRs and Statements of Case in respect of Indian Army.

(g)     To identify suitable Innovations undertaken by the field formations suitable for pan army use and mass production.

(h)    Generate long term research requirements for the Indian Army and share the same with the DRDO and Academia
