Lt Gen CP Mohanty, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C Southern Command

Lt Gen CP Mohanty, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, is a highly decorated, experienced and accomplished General Officer.
 
An alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, Graduate of National Defence Academy, Kharagvasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, the Gen Officer, as an Infantry Officer, was commissioned into The Rajput Regiment on 12 Jun 1982. He is qualified in most of the prestigious Military Courses which include Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Higher Defence Management Course, Secunderabad and National Defence College, New Delhi.
 
He has, in his illustrious career spanning over 38 years, served across a wide spectrum of conflicts and terrain profiles and has tenated a host of command, Staff and Instructional appointments. He has been a Company Commander in Counter Terrorism environment in J&K, Battalion Commander on the Line of Control also in J&K and later  on in North East. During this period he led his battalion in CI Ops in Assam and the famous “Operations All Clear”. He has the unique distinction of Commanding two Brigades; at first on the Line of Actual Control opposite China and later on he was nominated to head the multinational UN Brigade in Democratic Republic of Congo where he was awarded Sena Medal for successfully leading a Number of helibone operations against armed insurgent groups. He Commanded the Rangiya based Division in “Op Rhino” in Counter Insurgency environment. The Division conducted a No of successful ops against the NDFB & ULFA terrorists breaking their backbone to bring back peace to Assam. The General Officer was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his contributions. The Gen Offr has been the Director General operational Logistics & Strategic Movement at Integrated HQ of MoD in New Delhi. The General Offr has commanded the elite 33 Corps in Sikkim immediately after Doklam incident; when the corps was going through a challenging op envt.  The General Officer has a unique distinction of commanding two Administrative formations as well i.e Jodhpur Sub Area as a Maj Gen & Uttar Bharat Area as a Lt Gen.

The General Officer’s staff and instructional assignments include, Instructional tenure at NDA, Bridge Major of an Armoured Brigade, Military Advisor in Seychelles, Colonel Military Secretary (Selection) in the MS Branch and Brigadier General Staff (Ops) of a Corps in the Eastern Theatre.
 
Academically inclined, the General has researched extensively on China, South Asia & North East and is deemed to be an expert in these fields. He was awarded M.Phil in Defence Studies from Madras University and also holds two Masters Degrees in Defence Studies and Management Studies. The General officer is a keen sportsman and has special interest in keeping himself physically fit through Yoga.
 
The General Officer is also the Colonel of The Rajput Regiment.
 
The Gen Offr is well supported by his wife Mrs Mamun Mohanty, a distinguished academician in her own rights; being a Gold Medalist in (Physics) and also has a Gold Medal in Classical Dance from Allahabad University.  She has been a renowned Odissi dancer.  She constantly follows her passion in gardening, painting, block printing, music & dance.  She has also been an academics counselor. The lady is multi talented and has effectively contributed in all the fields affecting the families of Offrs and men under command of the Gen Officer.
 
The couple is blessed with one son, Mr Kaustav Mohanty. He is an alumnus of BITS, Pilani & has recently completed his PhD studies from USA and is employed with GE Health Care in Milwake, USA.
 
 

Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM GOC-in-C, Eastern Command

Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal took over as the GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command on   01 Sep 2019.

The General Officer was commissioned in Gorkha Rifles in June 1981.

The General Officer did his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William, Kolkata and is a graduate of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. He has done his M Phil (Defence and Strategic Studies) from Madras University. He is an alumnus of the prestigious NDC, New Delhi.

He commanded his battalion on the Line of Control, a brigade in the North East in Counter Insurgency environment, an Infantry Division in J&K, was GOC Spear Corps in Dimapur and has held the prestigious appointment of Director General Military Operations prior to assuming the appointment of GOC-in-C, Eastern Command.

The General Officer has had varied instructional and staff exposures which includes Instructor Class ‘C’ in IMTRAT, Bhutan, Director Faculty of Studies in Infantry School Mhow, GSO-1 (Ops), UNMO, in PP Dte, DDG Veterans in AG’s Br, COS HQ Chinar Corps and DG DC & W in Army HQs.

The General Officer is a recipient of Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card, Vice Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (NC) Commendation Card.

Academically inclined, the General Officer has authored a book titled ‘Aftermath of A Nuclear Attack’ which was published in 2010. He has also authored the History of 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre while commanding the Regimental Centre. The General Officer also compiled the history of the Dagger Division which has been published as ‘Sagacious Sentinels’ in 2017. He in an avid reader of military history with a special interest in Tibet.

The General Officer is married to Mrs Anupama. Mrs Anupama is a post graduate and has done B.Ed. She is a fashion designer and a painter. She has taught and popularised Fabric Painting.

Lt Gen RP Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Western Command

Lt Gen RP Singh, AVSM, VSM was commissioned into the Mechanised Infantry on 12 Jun 1982. An alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, the General officer has attended the Defence Services Staff Course, Senior Command Course, Higher Command Course and the prestigious National Defence College.

The General officer has held various regimental, staff and instructional appointments. He has successfully tenated prestigious staff appts including Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade in intense Counter Insurgency areas in J&K, GSO-2, Military Intelligence Directorate at IHQ of MoD (Army), Col GS (Military Doctrine) at Army War College, Mhow, BGS (Ops) of a Comd in Western Theatre, ADG Discp & Vigilance, DG LWE & DG DC&W at IHQ of MoD (Army). He was Instructor at school of Armd Warfare Ahmednagar and was also posted as United Nations Military Observer in United Nations in Africa.

The General officer commanded a Mechanised Infantry Battalion, an Armoured Brigade and an Infantry Division in the Western Theatre. He is a proud recipient of the Ati Vishist Seva Medal & Vishist Seva Medal for distinguished service.

Prior to moving to Western Command the General officer was the GOC of a Strike Corps. He has assumed the appointment of GOC-in-C, Western Command on 01 Aug 2019.

 

Lt Gen Iqroop Singh Ghuman, PVSM, AVSM,  GOC-in-C, Central Comd

Lieutenant General Iqroop Singh Ghuman, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command was commissioned into Brigade of the Guards in Jun 1981.

An alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, he has done his M Sc from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, M Phil in Defence and Management Studies from Army War College, Mhow, M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from National Defence College, New Delhi. He has also attended Counter Terrorism Course at North East South Asia Centre for strategic studies in USA.

The General has held varied Command, Instructional and Staff appointments. His command assignments include Commanding Officer of an Anti-Tank Guided Missile Battalion, Commander of a Mountain Brigade in High Altitude Area under OP RAKSHAK, General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division (RAPID) and General Officer Commanding of a Strike Corps in desert sector. The General Officer has been an Instructor at Infantry School Mhow and has also been posted as Military Observer in United Nations Angola Verification Mission.   

Prior to taking over present appointment he was tenanting the prestigious appointment of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information System & Training) at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence.

The General Officer is married to Mrs Ginny Ghuman who is an avid reader and an educationist with a post graduate degree in English.

Lt Gen YK Joshi, UYSM, AVSM, VRC, SM  GOC-in-C, Northern Command

Lieutenant General YK Joshi, UYSM, AVSM, VrC, SM was commissioned into (Bravest of The Brave) on 12 Jun 1982 and later commanded the same unit. The General Officer is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and a postgradutate from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He attended the prestigious National Defence College Course at New Delhi.

The General Officer has had command experience spanning the entire mosaic, covering all theatres. He commanded in Operation VIJAY and PARAKRAM. The General officer caught the attention of the nation during the Kargil war with his outstanding leadership under the nickname 'Joe' and led his unit to unprecedented success. In Operation VIJAY under his command the unit was awarded with a total of 37 gallantry awards including two PARAM VIR CHAKRA, eight VIR CHAKRA & fourteen SENA MEDAL. The unit has also been awarded with the Chief of Army Staff Unit Citation & the “Bravest of Brave” award. The General officer himself was awarded the “VIR CHAKRA” during his command in the operations. The General Officer has unique distinction of commanding an Infantry Brigade, Infantry Division and Corps in Ladakh Sector. He has also served as Director General, Infantry and was instrumental in catalyzing the modernization drive of the Infantry. He was The Chief of Staff, Northern Command before taking over the reigns of Northern Command as Army Commander on 01 Feb 2020.

The General Officer has had tenures as Instructor at Infantry School, Mhow and varied staff exposure, including Staff appointment at Military Operations Directorate and as Defence Attache to Beijing (China). He has also served as Military Observer in United Nations, Angola.

Lt Gen Raj Shukla, YSM, SM, GOC-in-C ARTRAC

A graduate of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy, Lieutenant General Raj Shukla was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in December 1982. In a career spanning four decades, the officer has seen extensive service in the field-he commanded a Medium Regiment in the Eastern / Desert Theatres, an Infantry Brigade in Counter Insurgency Operations, an Infantry Division along the Line of Control in the Valley and a Pivot Corps along the Western Borders.

An alumni of the Defence Services Staff College Wellington, the College of Defence Management - Secunderabad and the National Defence College - New Delhi, the General Officer has served two tenures at the Military Operations Directorate dealing with Doctrines / Force Structuring and till recently was the Director General, Perspective Planning at Army HQ, addressing issues relating to Military Futures and Forces Modernisation. He has also been Commandant of the Indian Army’s prestigious training establishment and think tank - the Army War College.

The General Officer’s instructional assignments include tenures at  the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT), Bhutan, School of Artillery, Deolali, Senior Instructor at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Commander, Higher Command Wing, Army War College, Mhow.
 
An aviator, as also  a recipient of the Yudha Seva Medal and the Sena Medal, General Shukla has an abiding interest in strategic– military affairs. He has authored numerous articles / publications and lectured / participated in various seminars in India and abroad. 
 
The General Officer assumed the Command of Army Training Command (ARTRAC) wef 01 May 20.
 
 

Lt Gen ALOK KLER, VSM, GOC-IN-C, SOUTH WESTERN COMD

Lieutenant General Alok Kler, VSM took over the command of Sapta Shakti Command as 10 th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief.

An alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, he was commissioned into ARMOURED CORPS in June 1982. He is a graduate from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and has attended various important career courses, at Army War College, Mhow. He is alumnus of National Defence College of Bangladesh.

The General Officer has considerable experience in varied operational assignments across India. He has served in Counter Insurgency / terrorism environ in J&K and North Eastern Sector. He commanded Armoured Regiment and Armoured Brigade in Western Sector. The General Officer has commanded the Armoured Division  and later he commanded the  Corps in Western Theatre. The General Officer has had staff experience at all levels. General officer has keen interest in cycling, fitness and sports. He is also an avid Environmentalist and keen Wild Life Enthusiast.
