Army Air Defence 5th Reunion Gopalpur


The Fifth Reunion of the Corps of Army Air Defence was celebrated from 03 to 05 Dec 2015 at Army AD College, Gopalpur on Sea near Brahmapur in Odisha.

The Reunion, fifth in the series, began on 03 Dec 15 with an Air Defence Biennial Conference chaired by Lt Gen Rajiv Bhatia, Director General and Colonel Commandant of Corps of Army Air Defence. It was also attended by Lt Gen Rakesh Nandan, Director General, Discipline, Ceremonial & Welfare and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Army Air Defence, Lt Gen AK Sahgal, Commandant Army AD College and other officers from Army Air Defence.

This was followed by various official and social events for the Fifth Reunion which provided a platform for interaction among the serving and retired Army Air Defence gunners to pay tributes to their martyred comrades and to honour their ‘Veer Naries’. The celebrations included Wreath Laying at the War Memorial, a specially convened ‘Sainik Sammelan’ and release of First Day Cover. A spectacular display of adventure and military activities including Sky Diving, Para Motor display, Malkhamb & Military Band display were organised to commemorate this occasion.

The role of Army Air Defence in preserving strategic assets of the nation assumes great significance in view of the emerging air threat. Army Air Defence will play a defining role in future conflicts and has started induction of technologically sophisticated weapons end equipment. Concurrently current inservice weapons are also being suitably upgraded.

The Army Air Defence warriors have earned the Corps numerous Gallantry & Distinguished Services awards incl four Kirti Chakras, 20 Vir Chakras and nine Shaurya Chakras. Four Army Air Defence units have been awarded the coveted Honour Titles in the 1971 War.
