DG RVS & Colonel Commandant RVC


Lt Gen PR Venkatesh assumed the appointment of Director General Remount Veterinary Services & Colonel Commandant RVC wef 01 Jul 2018. An alumnus of Mathura Veterinary College, he was commissioned in the Remount Veterinary Corps on 26 May 1986. The General Officer holds a master’s degree and was awarded Junior Fellowship by ICAR, New Delhi. In recognition of his contribution of exceptional nature in the field of veterinary sciences and animal husbandry, the General Officer was conferred with the Fellowship of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences by the Veterinary Council of India during year 2007.

The officer has an illustrious service profile and has tenanted prestigious appointments like Brig RVS HQ EC; Deputy Commandant RTS & D, Saharanpur; VO DSSC Wellington & OC 5 Army Dog Unit before moving to IHQ of MoD (Army) as Additional DG RVS in the year 2016. The officer has been part of UN Mission in Lebanon during the year 1999-2000 and also served with DRDO in a high altitude area in the Northern Sector. The General Officer held the coveted appointment of Adjutant, RVC Centre & College twice, wherein he was awarded the GOC-in-C Commendation Card, ARTRAC, besides two tenures at IHQ of MoD (Army) as JD RVS (RM) and Dir RVS (Pers). Lt Gen Venkatesh has done all mandatory courses with flying colours. The Officer is also qualified in fire fighting course, holds a diploma in information technology and has undergone training in handling of court cases besides being trained on management of organizational change at IIM, Kolkata.

He got married in the year 1990 to Ms Lakshmi who is a career educationist and presently the chairperson of an educational society in Delhi. They are blessed with two daughters Ramani & Pavitra. Ramani is currently working in USA while Pavitra is pursuing her law degree in Bangalore.

Lt Gen PR Venkatesh is an avid reader, a fitness enthusiast and regularly participates in both half and full marathons. A pious man to the core, the General Officer is a philanthropist contributing to the upliftment of the underprivileged.
