UNITED NATIONS DISENGAGEMENT OBSERVER FORCE (UNDOF)

 

 

1.      United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) was established in Golan Heights in May 1979.

 

Mandate

 

2.      The United Nation Security Council adopted resolution No 2,613 in December 2021 to continue the mission till June 22. The following tasks are mandated :-

 

(a)     Maintain the ceasefire between Israel and Syria.

 

(b)     Supervise the disengagement of Israeli & Syrian forces.

 

(c)     Supervise the areas of separation and limitation, as provided in the May 1974 Agreement on Disengagement.

 

Force Levels

 

3.      UNDOF has an authorized troop ceiling of 973 troops and 125 civilian staff.

 

Indian Deployment

 

4.      Indian Army has contributed troops to UNDOF with effect from 2006 as part of Logistic Battalion. Presently 200 Indian Army personnel are deployed in the mission. The Indian Army deployment consists of Logistic Company, Force Military Police Platoon, FHQ Support Platoon and 12 Staff Officers.
