Conditions of Eligibility

Awarded for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the Army. Awards may be made posthumously.

A bar shall be given for every subsequent award of the medal to a person.

All ranks of the Army.

Design of the Medal and Ribbon

Medal – Circular in shape, made of silver. The mounting shall be a fixed ring attached to a metal stripe 3mm wide ornamented with Ashoka Leaves. It shall have embossed on its obverse a bayonet, point upwards. On its reverse, it shall have an armed sentry and the inscription embossed along the upper rim.

Ribbon – Red colour with a thin silver-grey stripe down the centre
