COAS

Lt Gen Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, AVSM, YSM, DCOAS (Strat)

Lt Gen Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, AVSM, YSM assumed the appointment of DCOAS (Strat) at Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) on  01 Jul 2021.  Prior to assuming this key appointment, he was serving as the Director General Military Intelligence.  

Lt Gen Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, AVSM, YSM is an alumnus of Rashtriya Military School, Bengaluru and was commissioned in to the RAJPUTANA RIFLES in December 1983 from Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.      

The General has served in varied operational environments including OP PAWAN and  OP MEGHDOOT. He commanded the battalion in an active Counter Insurgency environment in the North East, commanded an Infantry Brigade on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and thereafter commanded an Infantry Division and a Corps in the Western Sector. He has held prestigious staff appointments at Military Operations Directorate, HQ Army Training Command, HQ Artillery Division, HQ of an op Corps and HQ Northern Command. He has been an Instructor at the Indian Military Academy and has also served as a Military Observer with UNOMIL in Liberia. He is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, College of Defence Management and National Defence College.

The General Officer is a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Yudh Seva Medal. He holds a Doctorate degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Pune University.

 

 

COAS

Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, DCOAS (CD&S)    

Lieutenant General Shantanu Dayal is an Infantry Officer commissioned in Garhwal Rifles in 1984. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy,Pune Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Defence Service Staff College, Ooty, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and National Defence College, Delhi.  

Lieutenant General Shantanu Dayal took part in active operations in Sri Lanka, Jammu & Kashmir and North Eastern States. The General Officer Commanded a Garhwal Rifles unit in Jammu & Kashmir, a Mountain Brigade in North East States, an  Infantry Division in Jammu & Kashmir and a  Corps in   North Eastern States. He has also served in Rashtriya Rifles as well as in Iraq and Kuwait on United Nations Mission. He has been an Instructor at Commando Wing, GSO 3  in an Infantry Brigade, GSO 2 and GSO 1 in Military Operations Directorate  at Army Headquarters, Col GS in an Infantry Division, Deputy Commander in a Mountain Brigade, BGS (Operations) in a Command Headquarters, DDG (D&V), ADG (Proc) and DG DC&W at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army).     

The General Officer was Mentioned in Despatch in Sri Lanka, awarded Sena Medal in J&K, Vishisht Seva Medal in Assam,  Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in Jammu & Kashmir and Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal in North Eastern States.

The General Officer is married to Mrs Simmi Dayal who is an Electronic and Communication Engineer. They are blessed with two children, the daughter Shaaina Dayal is an Electronic and Communication Engineer and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, USA and the son  Shaonak Dayal, is an  Engineering Graduate from Netaji Subash Institute of Technology , Delhi University.

 

 

COAS

Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, AVSM, DCOAS (IS&C) 

    

Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal assumed the appointment of DCOAS (IS&C) at Integrated HQ of MOD (ARMY) on 09 Apr 2021.The offr prior to tenanting this appointment had the honour of Commanding the Rising Star Corps deployed along the J&K and Punjab borders with Pakistan.  

The offr has commanded a Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Battalion in Kashmir as well as Deserts and Assam Rifles Sector in Manipur. He has been the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) in North East India and Director General of Infantry at Army Headquarters.    

The offr during his illustrious career spanning across 36 years, has tenanted various staff appointments in Headquarters Armoured Brigade, Mountain Division and Strike Corps. Army Headquarters appointments include Military Secretary’s Branch, Military Operations Directorate and Infantry Directorate. The offr has had instructional tenures at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and Higher Command Wing, Army War College, Mhow. He has been on two overseas tenures to incl UN Mission in Somalia and Military Advisor to the Govt of Seychelles. A graduate of the prestigious Defence Service Staff College and Higher Command Course, the officer has also attended the coveted National Defence College equivalent course in United States of America.

Complementing his illustrious Military Career, are an M Phil in Defence & Management Studies and two Master’s Degrees in Strategic Studies including one from United States Army War College. His articles have been published in Infantry Journal, Army War College Journal, Military Training Review Journal and South Asia Defence Strategic Review. He has pioneered the first ever compendium on Indo-Myanmar Border Management.
