Lieutenant General Shantanu Dayal is an Infantry Officer commissioned in Garhwal Rifles in 1984. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy,Pune Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Defence Service Staff College, Ooty, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and National Defence College, Delhi.
Lieutenant General Shantanu Dayal took part in active operations in Sri Lanka, Jammu & Kashmir and North Eastern States. The General Officer Commanded a Garhwal Rifles unit in Jammu & Kashmir, a Mountain Brigade in North East States, an Infantry Division in Jammu & Kashmir and a Corps in North Eastern States. He has also served in Rashtriya Rifles as well as in Iraq and Kuwait on United Nations Mission. He has been an Instructor at Commando Wing, GSO 3 in an Infantry Brigade, GSO 2 and GSO 1 in Military Operations Directorate at Army Headquarters, Col GS in an Infantry Division, Deputy Commander in a Mountain Brigade, BGS (Operations) in a Command Headquarters, DDG (D&V), ADG (Proc) and DG DC&W at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army).
The General Officer was Mentioned in Despatch in Sri Lanka, awarded Sena Medal in J&K, Vishisht Seva Medal in Assam, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in Jammu & Kashmir and Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal in North Eastern States.
The General Officer is married to Mrs Simmi Dayal who is an Electronic and Communication Engineer. They are blessed with two children, the daughter Shaaina Dayal is an Electronic and Communication Engineer and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, USA and the son Shaonak Dayal, is an Engineering Graduate from Netaji Subash Institute of Technology , Delhi University.
