Scouts Master Competition



        The "Army Scout Masters Competition" will be held at Jaisalmer city in the Indian state of Rajasthan.   Nicknamed “The Golden City”, Jaisalmer is located 575 Km West of the State capital Jaipur.  The town lies in the heart of the Thar Desert (The Great Indian Desert), has a total population of about 66,000, stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone and is crowned by the ancient Jaisalmer Fort - a world heritage site.  It is the largest district of the state of Rajasthan and the 3rd largest district by territorial region in the country.


        Jaisalmer experiences arid subtropical climate with unbroken sunshine throughout the year. The temperature varies greatly from day to night in both summer and winter.  The maximum summer temperature during Jul – Aug  is around 40 degree  to 45 degree Celsius (120 degree Fahrenheit) while the minimum is 25 degree Celsius (77 degree Fahrenheit). The average rainfall is 209.5 millimetres (8.25 inch). Water is scarce and generally brackish.  Around the Jaisalmer region only rain crops are grown and spring crops like wheat, barley are rare. ......





         Tourism is a major industry in Jaisalmer whose  musicians and dancers are a major culture export worldwide.  The mystic deserts surrounding Jaisalmer offer an ideal destination for a romantic sojourn.  Movies continue to be shot in the deary sands and famous fort structured hotels of Jaisalmer.  Jaisalmer Fort, a world heritage site is a major tourist attraction.




         Jaisalmer is connected to the rest of the country by road, rail and air.  The airport is active with flights from New Delhi, capital of India. Jaisalmer railway station runs daily trains between Jaisalmer and Jaipur, through which it is connected to Delhi and other cities all over India. Additionally, there exists a luxury tourist train known as “Palace on Wheels”, which covers the major tourist destinations of Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer.
